Young Riders finish equal 3rd in Wierden Nations Cup

The British Showjumping team of riders that contested the Young Riders Nations up in Wierden, The Netherlands earlier today finished equal 3rd with Norway on 33 penalties. The win went to the home nation on a penalty score of 12 with Italy taking 2nd on 20 penalties.
The role of pathfinder for the British team fell on the shoulders of Amy Inglis (19 years) from Haywards Heath, West Sussex with Every Way a 12 year-old bay mare owned by Lauren Hough. An elimination in the first round followed by 14 penalties in the second saw them become the drop score in each round. Theo Simpson (aged 19 years) from Buckhurst Hill, Essex with Touch of Chilli a 12 year-old chestnut gelding owned by David Simpson touched just one in the first round to return on 4 penalties. Their second round saw them pick up a further 4 penalties when a pole was rolled with a time penalty also being accrued.
Anna Wilks (19 years ) from Henley-on-Thames, Oxon with the 12 year-old bay gelding Undicci owned by In Showjumpers Ltd returned on 7 penalties in the first round and 6 penalties in the 2nd. Anchor rider and youth team stalwart Millie Allen (18 years) Stockton on Tees, Cleveland with the 11 year-old bay stallion Balou Star owned by Udo Oppermann also came home just outside the time allowed in each round with a fence being lowered each time to score 5 penalties in round 1 and 6 penalties in round 2.
The course definitely was one that tested the competitors with only three clears being achieved across the just short of fifty rounds that were jumped. Joint 5th place was awarded to both Italy and Spain who finished on 51 penalties which gives some indication as to the task the young field were set.
