Cozzy Soncini and High Offley Ferandee Secure Ariat British Novice Championship Final Ticket at Onley Grounds
Tuesday 02 June 2026

The Ariat Senior British Novice Championship Second Round at Onley Grounds Equestrian proved to be a competitive affair at the weekend, with 50 rider and horse combinations coming forward to tackle Kevin Bull's challenging course in a bid to secure qualification for the British Showjumping National Championships.
Riders were required to produce two faultless rounds to earn a place in the jump-off, and with the standard of competition exceptionally high, 20 combinations successfully negotiated both opening rounds without fault to progress to the final phase.
With qualification and championship honours on the line, the jump-off delivered plenty of excitement. It was Cozzy Soncini riding Mollie Gillard's High Offley Ferandee who set the benchmark, producing a superb clear round in a winning time of 46.49 seconds to claim the top spot.
Jodie Elliott and Uncertain Times also jumped a brilliant clear round to secure second place in a time of 50.18 seconds, while Amy Hubbard and Toukan completed the podium positions, stopping the clock clear in 51.53 seconds.
The class highlighted the quality and determination within the British Novice ranks, with riders and horses showcasing impressive consistency across all three rounds. Those successful combinations can now look ahead to the Ariat Senior British Novice Championship Final, which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships this August.
“I am over the moon, these things like this never normally happen to me! I work for Alice Watson and the horse came to us five weeks ago on sales livery, my horse was a little bit off before we were due to compete at the Welsh Masters so Alice said she would ask if I could take Lippy instead. I picked him up that evening and went to the Masters two days later and I’ve had him since, we had lots of top placings and fun there.
“He isn’t an overly experienced horse but he tries his hardest for you, honestly, he’s a dream horse and a such a lovely boy. I have been so lucky to have the ride on him, I would love to buy him myself it I can! Alice hadn’t planned to go to Onley, but I begged her so I could jump the second round and then we won! Alice had Lippy originally when he started jumping about a year ago, then he was sold to lovely lady who didn’t have much time for him, so he hasn’t done much, which is why he came back.
“The courses were perfect for him, the turns all worked for us, it rode so well and Lippy felt on form. After each round he felt better and better and with every round I said I need to by this horse then after the third clear I said, I AM buying this horse one way or another! He felt amazing, it was incredible. Luckily, the owners are so happy they have said I have to take him to the Championships. He also has his Nupafeed Discovery double clears, so we are going to try for that qualification this weekend at Ponderosa. It would be great to qualify for that too if we can!” Cozzy said.
Congratulations to Cozzy Soncini, Mollie Gillard, and High Offley Ferandee on their victory, and best of luck to all qualified combinations as they prepare for the National Championships later this summer.
