Sian Staples secures victory in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round at Dorset Showground

Sian Staples negotiated the quickest route to the top in the Equissage Pulse Senior British Novice Second Round at Dorset Showground on Billy Mont Blanc.

“I travelled specifically from Guernsey for this class so I’m ecstatic to win!  It’s taken me until I’m 40 to win a proper class – I’m always the bridesmaid,” said Sian.

Twenty-two competitors started over the course set at 1m and 18 posted initial clears to go forward into round two.  Only two were lost along the way with 16 accessing the third and final round and promising a competitive jump-off.

Sian quickly executed the fastest round of the class to take the top spot by 0.61 seconds on the Caroly x Billy Congo 5-year-old she bought as an unbroken two years ago from a Billy Stud Auction.

“I’ve never asked ‘Barney’ to do jump-off turns before but he responded beautifully.  He thinks he’s more dog than horse but he’s very sharp – I haven’t fallen off any other horse more than him but at the same time he’s very trusting; if I tell him it’s ok, he’ll jump the moon for me,” said Sian.

Celebrations were put on a temporary hold.

“Unfortunately, they cancelled the ferry I was booked on so I have to take the all-day ferry back to Guernsey on Monday – and yes it does take all day, we won’t get home until 3.30pm,” added Sian.  “It’s the perks of living on a rock but I cannot wait to get home and celebrate this win.”

Alexandra Robbins claimed second place on Champions Misdemeanour and Leigh Smallacombe clinched third riding K Spence.
