Saturday 11 June 2016
Robert Murphy, competing in his first year as a Junior, finished 3rd in the Grand Prix at Hagen, Germany this evening against a field of almost eighty starters.
Like all the courses being built for the youth teams at this highly respected show, it was a tough and testing 1.40m one which saw only seven of the competitors manage to navigate their way around it clear. Robert, a former Childrens European Championships individual gold medallist, returned another clear in the second round with Del Fuego, a bay gelding owned by Catherine Witt. Their time of 35.20 seconds was just a fraction of a second slower than Lars Volmer for Germany who won the class with Maja H in a time of 34.54 seconds. 2nd place also went to Germany in the form of Christoph Maack with Dyleen when they stopped the clock in 34.86 seconds just marginally ahead of Robert.
This follows Roberts nations cup appearance yesterday when a clear in the second round and just 4 penalties in the first saw him assist the Junior team take 1st place. The GB Youth Teams competing at Hagen have dominated the show so far and it was fantastic to see Robert ensuring the Union Flag was high up in the placings in the Junior Grand Prix as well as the other major classes that have taken place so far.
Thursday saw the Juniors win their Nations Cup against strong opposition whilst Friday furthered GB’s presence being felt when the Childrens Team won their respective Nations Cup and the Pony Team finished 3rd in theirs this morning. This afternoon saw Sienna Charles secure a brilliant win in the Children’s Grand Prix and for Robert to finish 3rd in this evenings Children’s Grand Prix it has certainly set the scene well for the Brits as we progress towards the rest of the season and the European Championships.
