Robert Bevis Rides Away Victorious in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Royal Bath & West Show

With the qualification period now well underway, the fourth Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier of 2016 was held at the prestigious Royal Bath & West Show in Somerset.

Under the watchful gaze of a captivated crowd, thirty competitors began the battle to claim one of the three qualification places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show. With just nine combinations able to produce a clear in the first round, the tension was high as they began the jump off hoping to pin down a double clear and a top three placing.

As five combinations held their nerve to successfully produce a second clear round, it was down to the all-important clock to decide the order of the top three.

First place was secured by Robert Bevis from Wrexham, Clwyd riding his own 7 year-old bay mare, Etude. This pair really did lead from the front as they were drawn first in both rounds. Not letting nerves get the better of him, Robert rode a speedy and accurate jump off round, crossing through the finish line in an unbeatable 41.82 seconds.

Adrian Whiteway from Wraxall, Bristol took second place on board Myles Browning’s 7 year-old bay mare, Contendros Quest. After producing one of the quickest first round clears, this combination were hot on Robert’s heels, producing their double clear in 43.11 seconds.

It was Mark Edwards from Cowbridge, South Glamorgan who scooped the final qualifying place on Quidde Du Buisson Z, a 7 year-old dark brown gelding owned by Anthony Hill. This pair produced their double clear in 43.97 seconds.
