Olivia Poole Wins Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe

The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe hosted a Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round on Sunday and the class proved to be as popular as ever with a total of seventy-three combinations coming forward.

With just two direct qualifying places available for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, each rider was focused on producing a treble clear as they knew that this would give them the best chance of taking one of the coveted qualification spots for their very own.

Following two tough rounds of competition, just seven combinations made it into the final jump off. Three combinations were able to produce that all important third clear, but with just the two Championship Final places on offer, the allocation of these was to come down to the ever crucial clock.

The fastest treble clear was delivered by 16 year-old Olivia Poole from Shrewsbury, Shropshire with her mother Michelle’s 7 year-old dark bay mare Pauldarys Bobbys Girl. First to jump off, Olivia and Pauldarys Bobbys Girl laid down the gauntlet after producing their third and final foot perfect round in a quick time of 42.07 seconds, a time which proved unbeatable.

Harry Charles, aged 15, from Alton, Hampshire secured second place on John and Laura Renwick and Peter Charles’ 6 year-old chestnut mare Phoenix V. Harry rode both accurately and quickly to cross the finish line with a treble clear in 46.17 seconds.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, the riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth missed out on their Championship Final qualification this time around. They did however take home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
