Madelaine Archibald & Megan Trott are Crowned the 2016 Springboard Champions

SouthView Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire played host to this year’s Springboard 128cm and 138cm Championship Finals. With a competitive qualification campaign spanning between August 2015 and January 2016 prefixing these Championships, eager spectators looked on as the  qualified combinations battled it out to find out who would ride away with this year’s Championship titles.

Springboard 128cm Championship
Out of a starting field of twenty-three combinations in the 128cm Championship, it was left to just seven focused competitors to battle it out for a sought after double clear and a podium place in the jump off.

It was 10 year-old Madelaine Archibald who secured first place riding Ross Archibald’s 18 year-old palomino gelding, Tazmania II. The pair produced a high-speed second clear in an untouchable time of 40.84 seconds. 

Second place went to 9 year-old Tia Squibb from Brentwood, Essex on board Gorm And Ban, a 15 year-old coloured gelding owned by Sarah Squibb. This pair claimed their double clear in a time of 43.16 seconds to ride into the runner up spot. 

Eleven year-old Clementine Crosthwaite Eyre from Okehampton, Devon flew into flew into third place riding Kyneton Sweet William, a 14 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Alexandra Crosthwaite Eyre. This combination produced their double clear in a time of 43.65 seconds.  

Springboard 138cm Championship
The 138cm Championship started with a field of seventeen determinded riders and just eight combinations produced a first round clear to progress through to the final jump off. With only two double clears being jumped, the remaining placings came down to the all-important clock.

It was 11 year-old Megan Trott from Dunkeswell, Devon who was crowned Champion riding Romanno Mayflower, a 10 year-old Chestnut mare owned by Michelle Thackray. The pair produced two impressive clear rounds, leaving all poles in place in an unbeatable time of 36.60 seconds. 

Second place went to 13 year-old Paige Newton from High Peak, Derbyshire on board Shawnee Newton’s 13 year-old spotted mare, Beauty Spot. This pair went for the more haste less speed approach as they secured a double clear in 44.20 seconds to scoop the runner up spot.

Twelve year-old Jake Gibson from Pickering, North Yorkshire claimed third place with Llettycrudd Cardi Bach, a 12 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Gordon Gibson. This combination was caught out as they had an unfortunate pole down near the end of the jump off to come home with four faults in a time of 35.05 seconds.

7th Oscar Hobby & Glynarlyn Farthin – 4 – 73.37 seconds
