On the opening day of the Royal Norfolk Show in Norwich, Laura Renwick jumped to victory in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier on board John Renwick’s grey stallion, Utrillo De Breve.
Under grey skies, a dedicated crowd looked on as thirty-three keen competitors began campaigning for one of the three qualification places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final which will be held at this year’s Horse of the Year Show.
Just eleven hopeful combinations produced a first round clear to go through to the final jump off against the clock. Drawn first to go, Laura and 8 year-old Utrillo De Breve really did lead from the front, posting their double clear in an unbeatable time of 46.33 seconds.
Second place went to Benjamin Bick from Durley, Southampton riding Oliver Gent’s 7 year-old bay gelding Rumors Cascari. This pair delivered the fifth double clear of the class in 47.58 seconds.
Derek McCoppin from Canterbury, Kent eased into third place with Caroline Phillips 7 year-old grey gelding, Mr Blue Sky. This pair produced their double clear in 48.16 seconds.
