Celebrating 70 Years Of Her Majesty The Queen At Royal Windsor Horse Show
Wednesday 27 April 2022
Royal Windsor Horse Show, held from 12-15 May 2022 in the private grounds of Windsor Castle, is truly a royal occasion. First staged in 1943, the Show was initially set up to help raise funds for the war effort. In this first edition of the Show, originally called the ‘Windsor Horse and Dog Show’, a young Princess Elizabeth won the Pony and Dogcart class.
HM The Queen has always been a keen horsewoman and has never missed an edition of the Show. HM The Queen has horses competing in the Showing classes and is always keen to cast her expert eye on them in the ring. This year, the Show will celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with ‘A Gallop through History’, a theatrical arena spectacular which will take place each evening and feature over 500 horses and 1300 performers. The production will literally take the audience on a gallop through history, from Elizabeth I to the present day.
In recognition of HM The Queen’s long-standing relationship with the Show, we have taken a look back through the decades at some of her most memorable moments.
