British Childrens Nations Cup Team win in Hagen, Germany
Friday 10 June 2016
Following a third round jump-off against home nation Germany, the British Childrens team triumph to take 1st place in the Pony Nations Cup at Hagen this afternoon.
Sienna Charles (13 years) from Alton, Hampshire with Chaitanya 2 a 9 year-old grey mare owned by Peter Charles were the trailblazers for the team. Absolutely on form, to the point of outstanding, Sienna jumped three clear rounds to mirror the three that she jumped a few weeks ago in Opglabbeek.
Lily Freeman-Atwood (14 years) from Shrewsbury, Shropshire with Banana D’Ive Z a 15 year-old chestnut mare owned by Mark McCourt had an unfortunate elimination in the first round when a stop at an obstacle saw her unseated. Their second round saw 8 penalties accrued, however they put this absolutely behind them when they came back in the jump off to deliver a clear in what proved to be the fastest time for the team.
Ellie Hall-Mcateer (14 years) from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire with Dazzle, a 15 year-old grey mare owned by Mandy Hall looked as great as she did at Opglabbeek when she won her respective Grand Prix as did anchor Oliver Fletcher (13 years) from Woolstone, Oxfordshire on Temple Rebus a 9 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Graham Fletcher. With both riders delivering clears across the first two rounds, their strong performances meant that GB had finished on a zero penalty score, a score that was then matched by home nation Germany resulting in a third round jump off being required to decide how the top two places would be allocated.
With both Sienna and Lily having delivered clears in the first round in faster times than the first two riders for Germany who had also jumped clear the atmosphere was most definitely a tense one. GB had been drawn second to go of the two nations and as Ellie entered the arena she had just watched Germany’s third rider jump clear albeit it in a slower time than those of her own team riders before her. Riding with flair and determination Ellie came home across the finish line clear within a time that was fast enough to ensure that the Germany team couldn’t touch us to claim the title without the need for Oliver to jump again.
