An exciting new ‘Show Jumping Style for Performance’ Class

An exciting new competition has very kindly been scheduled by the organisers of the 2009 BSJA Scope/Festival of Show Jumping for members who have attained the ‘3 Star Award’ of the Five Star Performance Awards programme.   Allowing competitors to compete with any grade of registered horse with a maximum height of 1.10m for the first prize of £250 the competition will be marked on Style of the rider to influence the performance of the horse.

The riders effectiveness, position, balance, feel, timing, rhythm & impulsion to empower the horse to jump at the best of it’s ability.  The overall presentation of the horse rider combination in addition to their evident mutual understanding and empathy will also be a key consideration.

With the Five Star Performance Awards going from strength to strength and the importance that a strategic approach to training can play in their competitive performance British Show Jumping hope that this exciting new class will be warmly received.   Katrina Moore, Chairman of the British Show Jumping Training Committee commented “This class will serve to highlight the importance of having a training programme whilst also focusing the mind on competing to perform rather than competing to win when working their way through the competition structure.  By focusing on one’s overall performance – success will generally follow.  A train of thought that can often be forgotten during the day to day production of our horse and riders”.

Di Lampard, Consultant Head of Training for British Show Jumping echoed this comment by saying “Whether we are looking at the sport as a whole or looking at our own individual performance, the key to progression is to ensure the basics are right and that we continue building on them.  The Five Star Performance Awards reiterate this throughout the programme and for those members that have attained the midway mark we see this class as a great opportunity for them to put their hard work into practice at a National Championship  Show.
