Allington CSI 2* - Day Three

Chelsea Skelton used her late draw to maximum effect to take the Andrews Bowen medium tour final with Millfield Baloney on the concluding day of Allington.

“I let him run in big rings, he loves fast,” said Chelsea.

They held on to their lead despite the final challenge from Maja Burnell on Carnaval Komombo, who was just 0.06 sec behind for second place.  Louise Whitaker took third with the nine-year-old Ruby VIII with Jack Whitaker in fourth on Native De Vesquerie. Holly Gillott was fifth on Jane Heerbeck’s Carolus K DHI.

Holly netted yet another six-year-old title on Grennanstown Sarco Luxhill, taking the Avant six-year-old final by 0.67 sec.

“He’s big and rangy but very careful,” said Holly on the Irish-bred 17h gelding.

Laura Mantel and New Priory Stud’s Funnycan claimed second spot with Laura Pritchard and Fayot in third.  Emma Stoker was fourth on Bob Young’s Everton De Villee with fifth going to Louise Whitaker and Brendon Stud’s home-bred Special Warrior, by Warrior.

Ireland’s Michael Duffy clinched an amazing double with the big tour grand prix on Belanto Z and the small tour final with Ceather.  Both horses are owned by Alan Burnell and this was Michael’s first show riding them.

It was won and lost at the final tall vertical.  Britain’s Joe Whitaker posted the fastest time of the class by 1.48 sec with Lola V, but at the very costly expense of the top rail of the Arena UK vertical.

Michael secured the grand prix on Belanto Z with 1.06 sec in hand over William Funnell on the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve sired Billy Angelo.

From a field of 53, ten provided first round clears over Mark McGowan’s testing 13-fence track, with two other riders incurring just one fault and they were joined by the fastest two four faulters for a jump-off of 14.

Louise Saywell clinched third on the stallion Mr Darcy with Emma Stoker fourth on Townhead Campus and Sharon Quigley fifth on Adermie 52.  Jess Dimmock was sixth on the eight-year-old Cybel II.

Louise Whitaker was also at the getting-to-know-you stage in the small tour final on Old Lodge’s Leen OL, a Berlin sired mare previously with Nicole Pavitt.

“This is our first proper show, we’ve done a couple of little outings before here,” said Louise, “and Dad [John] and I will share the ride between us.”

Emma Stoker took third on Dieg ‘Eau De Villee with Aimee Jones’ opening round on Ultravox in the 11-horse jump-off taking fourth.  Simon Crippen took fifth on Judy Ross’ Rosgan So Divine ahead of Beth Vernon, in sixth on the fastest four faults with Omane Des Faux.

Kathryn Ellison dominated the gold tour final, lifting the top two places with Hanleen Sultis and Cherokee Bay.  Danielle Holme was 0.61 sec adrift with Boyd for third.  Hannah Hughes on Eye Catcher II took fourth ahead of Ella Popely in fifth on Little Luidam.

Michael Fursedonn was on-form with Nikki Carlton’s Foxtrot Van Den Aard, taking on day one, winning on day two and heading the silver tour final by almost three sec.

“I only ride him at shows and he’s always super-careful,” said Michael.

Lois Gammon took second on Bentley CL with Julie Slade and Billy Gogo in third, just 0.29 sec separating them.

Michael also finished second in the five-year-old final on Nirvana Vant Vossenhof Z.

Zoe Smith topped the five-year-old final with 1.67 sec in hand on Garcia Lente, a Bodinus sired gelding she bought as a three-year-old and broke in herself.

Ruby Fryer was third on Diamant WP Z with Paul Barker on Gait L in fourth and Lauren Edwards in fifth and sixth on Kesara and Expresso.
