Ffion Roberts Lands Top Spot at the Final Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at the Welsh Home Pony

14 year-old Ffion Roberts landed the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round win with Rich Faith at Wales and West, securing a second place in the prestigious Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in October.

Ffion already has Kantjes Bozzy through to HOYS, and here, she beat thirty-eight other hopefuls for first place. Fourteen posted initial clears and just six reached the final jump-off, Ella Popely and the Irish-bred 13-year-old Jethro taking an early lead.

Ffion from Holywell, Flintshire took advantage of her penultimate draw to forge ahead by 0.39 sec on Rich Faith, a 12-year-old mare she took over from her brother Joseph two years ago. “I wanted to get the first two fences out of the way, the second fence was a tricky stile, and then I could push on,” said Ffion, who is thrilled to have two ponies in the final – “It’s good news, they both travel much better together.”

16 year-old Ella Popely from Peterborough slipped into second on Jethro with third going to 15 year-old Joe Fernyhough from Gloucestershire aboard Jenny and Graham Hudson’s Eastside Mirah, an 11-year-old Irish-bred mare who contended Hickstead’s winter JC final just a few days earlier.  This pair finished fifth in the Squibb Group pony Foxhunter final last year.

Taking Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters places for another chance to qualify at the British Showjumping National Championships in August were Kiarra Hulme took fourth with the 11-year-old Bombay III and last-to-go Maia Andrews took fifth aboard the 9-year-old Miami Carwyn.
