Emily Notman takes the 138cms Stepping Stones Championship Title
Thursday 13 August 2015
The Stepping Stones 138cm Championship final held earlier today in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show saw Emily Notman from Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire with her mother Sarah’s 14 year-old roan gelding Bailey XII clinch the title after a confident jump off.
After a challenging first phase, twelve competitors achieved clear rounds and moved into the jump off. Francesca Mellor from Welwyn, Hertfordshire partnering Alexandra Beattie’s 13 year-old dapple grey mare Orchid kicked off the final round with an impressive 27.32 seconds, giving the other competitors a target.
After a fierce round, the riders knew it was a case of risk and reward with every turn making a difference. Emily pushed herself and her pony to the limit and the drive paid off with Emily stopping the clock at 26.18 seconds.
Emily was elated with the win as it was her second of the National Championships: “I didn’t think I could do a double win but it was really close and the other girl rode really well… I just kept close to the jumps and kicked on”.
Stepping Stones appears to be fulfilling its purpose by offering young riders a smooth pathway into competitive show jumping. The class presented a high standard of competition and the combinations showed spectators that the future of show jumping is bright and the potential of young riders in the UK is extremely promising.
