After the introduction of the Stepping Stones series in 2009, the class has produced some extremely promising rider – pony combinations and this year has been no exception.
Our commentator, Adam Cromarty, relayed the atmosphere in the collecting ring telling spectators: “drama and excitement really is building back stage”. Spectators lined the ring to watch the intense event and cheer on their favourite competitors.
The 128cm class got off to an incredible start with Ellie Burrell-Squibb from Brentwood, Essex completing a confident clear round in 57.30 seconds. With a time to beat, all twenty-one combinations gave it their all in the first section with thirteen clear rounds overall. Crowds in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena were delighted with the fierce competition in the jump off between the riders in the 128cm class. A particularly special performance was given by Aimee Jones from Shrewsbury, Shropshire riding Alison Sargeant’s 10 year-old strawberry roan mare Arrogan Emily T R who completed the course in a fabulous 23.92 seconds, propelling her into first place and keeping her there.
We spoke to Aimee after the awards about her incredible performance: “I’m overwhelmed, she (Arrogan Emily T R) is absolutely amazing”. Aimee has only been training with the winning Pony since May 2015, which makes her win even more impressive. It is clear that we should expect big things from this young rider.
