A Special Win for Jay Halim and Abrisco

There was no shortage of big names in the National B Grade Championship this afternoon in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show.
The grandstand was full and the standing room area crowded as the class commenced to showcase a high quality of Grade B horses. The atmosphere was intense as the course challenged some of the combinations. The final fence caught out more than one horse resulting in a rail when they were on their way to the finish line.
There were six riders that made it through to the jump off where the tension built even further. Riders knew they needed to be quick and careful in order to secure the top spot. Jay Halim was the first to jump on Abrisco and he produced an outstanding clear round in a time of 33.67.
Try as they might no other combination were able to catch Jay and Abrisco. The rider who managed to get the closest was Rachel Walker with her 9yo horse Bo Gi with a time of 34.90.
The British Showjumping National Championships Ambassador, Tim Stockdale, also produced a double clear riding Miss Fritz with a time of 35.77 putting him in third place.
It was clear that Jay was thrilled with his win and that he has a close bond with his talented ride. “I’m over the moon, he’s such a winner for me, and he’s very consistent. I love the horse to bits”.
Jay clearly has an eye for talent and has fought to keep the ride on Abrisco who started life as an event horse. Jay said that the owners wanted to sell him and through an ad in Horse & Hound Jay managed to find people to invest him so that he could keep the ride.
This combination came second at Horse of the Year Show last year in the Grade C and have also competed abroad. Jay says that Abrisco “has the desire to win more than any horse I’ve ever ridden. There’s very, very few times in 2 years he has ever let me down”.
It is clear from the drive that both Jay and Abrisco showed in the National B Grade Championship Final that the combination have much success in their future.
