WILLIAM FLETCHER AND CHARLIE JONES AGED 14 YEARS SET SIGHTS ON FEI CHILDREN’S FINAL IN BRAZIL

Tuesday 03 December 2013

Charlie Jones from Leicestershire and William Fletcher from Oxfordshire, both aged 14 years, will be shortly leaving for Brazil to contest the FEI Children’s International Classics Final which takes place between the 10-15th December 2013.

The Final which will see thirty two athletes come forward representing a total of twelve nations.   Sixteen of the riders will be representing the home nation and providing two horses for the competition, one for themselves and one for an invited rider.  The remaining sixteen riders were identified based on their previous performances at previous FEI Children on Horses events or their position on the Childrens Gold Tour standing list.   Both William and Charlie qualified for the final at Barbizon, France in September.

The competition is unique in format in respect of the fact that the host nation riders have to provide horses for the competition in it’s entirety.   Bringing two horses to the Final, a draw takes place to identify which of their two horses they are to ride.  Once the home nation draw has taken place, a second draw is undertaken to identify which horse the remaining riders will be allocated.

The draw takes place on the 10th December after the horse inspection with the first warm-up competition taking place on the 11th.  The first qualifying competition takes place on the 12th December the second competition taking place the next day followed by a rest day before the Final on the 15th December.
