Weekend round up Hardelot and Italy

Britain had a strong representation in Hardelot, France this week. With a joint win in the six bar competition for Huddersfield’s Robert Whitaker riding the eight year old brown stallion Catwalk IV and Canterbury based Guy Williams riding Paul Gill’s ten year old grey mare Richi Rich III. Guy also had a win in the Toubin Clement 1.45m riding his own fifteen year old bay gelding Torinto van de Middelstede. Mark Armstrong from Bordon in Hampshire scored a win in the Boucherie Pilote 1.35m riding David Wenman’s nine year old bay mare Caleta.
Joseph Clee who is currently based in Belgium picked up a second place in the Colas 1.35m riding his own Diablesse De Muze. Also picking up a second place in a 1.35m class was Huddersfield based John Whitaker riding the bight bay eleven year old stallion Tadmus owned by Beth Gillespie.
William Funnell from Dorking in surrey missed out on the top spot throughout the week but managed to pick up three fourth positions. The first being in the six bar competition riding Beowulf, the ten year old chestnut gelding owned by Julie Slade. The 1.30m six year old class saw William ride the Billy Stud’s chestnut stallion, Billy Mexico into fourth place. To top the week off William was the only British rider in the results for the 1.50m Grand picking up fourth place. This time riding the Billy Stud’s ten year old brown stallion Billy Congo William jumped clear in the jump off in a time of 38.35 seconds.
In Italy we had riders over in Augusta and in Arezzo. The Augusta CSI 3* Grand Prix saw twenty one year old Philippa Dobby from Lancashire pick up fourth place in the 1.50m Grand Prix, riding her mother’s (Margaret) fourteen year old chestnut mare Utah IV. Arezzo are in the fourth week of the CSI 3* Gold Tour and Michael Whitaker is still on form gaining a fifth place in the Gold Tour Grand Prix riding his own nine year old chestnut gelding Viking V.
