Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Finals begin at Field House Equestrian Centre

The Tri-Zone Airlite Senior Discovery Regional Finals kicked off this weekend at Field House Equestrian Centre in Staffordshire (Saturday 12th May) and the competition proved popular, with nearly 100 horse and rider combinations entering the class.
From the 100 entries in total, 94 riders and horses came from all over the country to start in the Regional Final with the aim of qualifying for the Tri-Zone Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
After first having to produce two clear rounds, 28 combinations made it through to the final jump off and of these combinations, 15 then went on to produce their crucial third clear to qualify them for the Championship Final.
It was 27-year-old Michael Potter from Woodborough, Nottinghamshire who was the eventual winner of the class. Michael rode Emilie Machon’s Billy Butter to victory over the final jump off course, coming home clear in a time of 46.06 seconds.
Michael’s time was 0.72 seconds ahead of second placed Liane Smith from Chesterfield, Derbyshire who rode her own Arnoud over the course in 46.84 seconds.
In third after the final jump off was 20-year-old Kerry Brennan from Chesterfield, Derbyshire who rode her clear round in a time of 47.06 seconds aboard Michael Wharmby’s Vermillion II.
A further five riders also achieved their third clear in a time under 50.00 seconds and the total numbers of riders qualified for the Championship Final was 15 following this Regional Final.

The Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 will take place from the 26th August – 1st September 2012 at Staffordshire County Showground.
