Final Day of the British Showjumping National Championships
Sunday 10 August 2025
The final lap of honour has been completed in the Sytner Land Rover Coventry Championship Arena, and 3894 rounds have been jumped, bringing the British Showjumping National Championships to a close for 2025.
Jack Waddington & "small but mighty" Halo Joy are the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters winners. It was an exciting final jump off. Yesterday’s 148 Champion, Hollie Gerken set the early pace and held the top stop, until Jack snatched the win by 0.89 seconds.
Jack said: "Hollie went fast and she kept a really good pace around the corners and kept it level so, I think because she's [Halo Joy] got a shorter stride and is a bit quicker across the ground, I think that helped out - but really just to go quick and kind of, just keep it as good as I could and help the pony out as much as I could - and she helped me."
Having produced Halo Joy himself, Jack looks forward to jumping the Newcomers and Foxhunter finals at HOYS in his final year. Talking about his pony he says: "She's very clever and hopefully she goes on to do well with my little sister."
Over in the Unibed Championship Arena, Jonty Hughes and 6-year-old Idole Des Islots took the title in the STX-UK Pony British Novice Championship Final. With 29 combinations through to a thrilling jump-off, Jonty secured a 2.23-second lead ahead of the other 10 double clears to claim his biggest win yet.
Jonty said: “It’s my first time winning a class this big and it feels really good.” His tactics were simple: “I didn’t want to go too fast and make her flat, but fast enough to win it.”
Holly West and 9-year-old Clashroe Lad celebrated in style in the Pony Silver League 138cm & Under Final, taking an inside turn to secure the win.
Holly said: “I was the last to go and I knew there was only one other clear that was quite quick, so I knew that if I just did my turns, then he was fast enough to cover the ground.”
Describing the win, she added: “Oh, it’s amazing. I know I can trust him so much — I just love him.”
Despite saying his 23-year-old pony Darth Moll can be “a bit lazy at home,” we saw a celebratory fist pump as Hector Condon charged through the finish line to take the win in the Pony Silver League 128cm Final with a 2-second lead — another lightning-fast jump-off!
Hector was “over the moon” to win the class. His plan? “Just after the oxer to the double to go quick, but we turned inside – that was one of the tactics.”
Rosie Beech claimed her biggest win yet in the Stepping Stones 128cm Championship Final on her 17-year-old Kilcranathan Princess. With 21 combinations through to a fast-paced jump-off, Rosie secured the win by just 0.36 seconds ahead of second-placed Millie Whitaker — a fantastic achievement!
Rosie said she was very “excited” to win. Her tactic? “Do all the turns and go fast.” She described her pony as “good and very fast.”
Flora Cairns took the win in the Stepping Stones 138cm Championship Final on 13-year-old Dance Monkey. She said: “I feel really good about it. He’s been such a good boy, and I can’t really ask him to do anything better.”
Her jump-off strategy clearly paid off, with 1 second to spare: “We were thinking we were just going to go really fast and tight around the corners and do our best — which we have.”
The secret to Kelly Barber’s win on her 15-year-old Sahara Storm in the Pony Restricted Rider 1.00m Championship Final? “Be quick.” She certainly was, taking the win ahead of Gracie Maw and Creggaun Sparrow Dun in second place.
What a week it’s been — glorious weather, unforgettable rounds – we wish all with HOYS tickets the best of luck and see you there!
