Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifiers Continue at Cheshire County Show

The fourth of the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifiers took place yesterday last week (Tuesday 18th June 2013) at Cheshire County Show in Tabley, Knutsford. The class proved to be popular with eligible combinations and a total of 50 starters contested this qualifier.

Up for grabs at this qualifier were three direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the starting combinations were vying for one of these tickets. All of the combinations were hoping to produce a double clear to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. A total of 18 combinations made it through into the jump off and with 6 double clears being produced, the placings came down to the times.

The win was eventually taken by 34 year-old Angela Thompson from Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire on board her own 8 year-old chestnut mare, Calrina WBF. A quick double clear produced in 41.52 seconds ensured that this combination took home the top prize.

Second place went to 20 year-old Donald Whitaker from Barnsley, South Yorkshire and he rode Feigtling, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Graham Ward. This combination also produced a sub 42.00 seconds time, stopping the clock on 41.96 seconds.

Third place was taken by 42 year-old Bryan Smith from Malvern, Worcestershire on Wilhelmus S, a 10 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Mr Sport Horses. This combination posted a double clear in 42.01 seconds to grab the third and final qualifying spot.
