South View Equestrian Centre play host to the fourth Development Classic

Last weekend saw South View Equestrian Centre play host to the fourth Development Classic Show. With Championship qualifies taking place throughout weekend course designer Peter Gillespie knew he had to build some testing courses.
It was the Cornwall based Sammie Coffin who took first place in the British Showjumping Business Partnership Winter Novice which took place on the Saturday. With twenty combinations making it though to the jump off Sammie had a tough task on her hands, however being drawn near the bottom she had a slight advantage. Sammie partnered Zabantos a seven year old bay stallion owned by James Luker’s. The pair jumped a fantastic clear round in a time of 33.50 seconds nearly two seconds faster than second placed Emily Smith. Emily was drawn sixth to go in the jump off and jumped a faultless round in a jump off time of 35.02 seconds. Emily rode her own ten year old bay mare Utopia X.
Sunday saw the Welcome to Yorkshire Winter Grade C Qualifier get on the way with a staggering 24 riders making it through to the jump off. It was 19 year old James Smith from Scotland who took the first place prize fund along with the first of the qualifying places. James jumped clear in a jump off time of 34.84 seconds while riding Leona Smith’s eight year old bay mare Winday II. Second place went to Danielle Jolliffe and her own Erasmus Van De Heffinck jumping clear in a time of 35.75 seconds.
All of the above combinations have qualified for the Championships. The British Showjumping Business Partnership Winter Novice Championship will take place at the Royal International Horse Show in July, with the Welcome to Yorkshire Winter Grace C Championship taking place at the Yorkshire International Showjumping Event in April.
