Ross McDonald Succeeds in Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre

Ross McDonald and Second Dan fought off the challenge from fifty-three other combinations to take victory in Saturday’s Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre in Hardwicke, Gloucestershire.

Each starting combination was competing with the aim of collecting the treble clear required for a guaranteed place in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the British Showjumping National Championships this summer.

The starting field was narrowed down to just twelve combinations following two rounds of fierce competition. Spectators watching the final jump off were treated to seven treble clear performances.

Ross McDonald, aged 35, from Thurcaston, Leicestershire took the top spot after producing the fastest treble clear of the class with his own and Jon McDonald’s 6 year-old bay roan gelding Second Dan. Ross and Dan were drawn seventh to go in the jump off and with three treble clears having already been achieved earlier on; Ross knew that he had to emulate this to be in with a shot of taking the win. The combination not only achieved their treble clear, but they did so in convincing style after producing a lightning fast round to finish up with nearly six seconds in hand. They finished in 38.80 seconds.

Ross was clearly thrilled with his result “I came to this class with the game plan of not only riding a treble clear but also taking the win and I am delighted that it all came together, if not a little shocked. Showjumping is my hobby and I purchased Dan as a three year-old. I’m pleased with how we did today as I have brought him on myself and he performance brilliantly.”

Second place went to 50 year-old Carl Freeman from Rugeley, Staffordshire and he was on board Claire Commins’ 6 year-old bay mare Eriggy. Three solid rounds from this combination saw them take their place in the top two with a treble clear in 44.76 seconds.

Third place was taken by 22 year-old Laura-Paige Millard from Kidderminster, Worcestershire on her own 7 year-old liver chestnut Quinaldo. Their treble clear was delivered in 45.20 seconds.

With another four combinations also achieving a treble clear, seven combinations from this second round will now go forward to the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final.
