Rachael Connor tops the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre
Thursday 29 June 2017
With a bumper crop of horses and riders descending on Weston Lawns Equitation Centre at the weekend, Rachael Conner had to put in a top class performance to secure a win in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round.
With 117 combinations all hoping to claim one of the two qualification spots on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show, it proved to be a competitive class. The first two rounds saw the competitor number dwindle as just nine booked their place in the jump off.
Rachael Connor travelled from Rossendale, Lancashire with her 11 year-old grey mare, B Valeree and they went on to make the journey worthwhile when securing the top spot with a treble clear. As the penultimate combination to tackle the newly shortened course, this partnership used their speed and accuracy to full effect as they knocked over two seconds off the time and left all the fences standing in 37.60 seconds.
Taking second place was Rebecca Marsh from Warrington, Cheshire riding I’ve Got The Key, a 7 year-old brown gelding owned by Heathcroft Stud. This pair gave a strong challenge and crossed the finish line with a treble clear in 39.88 seconds.
The riders and horses that finished in third to sixth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
