JOHN WHITAKER INTERNATIONAL PONY TEAM

Great Britain’s John Whitaker International Pony Team chalked up yet another Nations Cup win in Moorsele over the weekend, taking victory by a single penalty over the home nation Belgium.

16 year-old Lara Whiteway from Preston, Lancashire riding Sharon Whiteway’s 17 year-old bay gelding ABC Juri produced a foot perfect clear in the first round and then finished the second on eight penalties.

15 year-old Laura Robinson from Northallerton, North Yorkshire riding Neal Robinson’s 11 year-old chestnut gelding Salvador IV was unfortunately eliminated in the first round and then returned to jump a superb clear in the second.

13 year-old Amy Inglis from Haywards Heath, West Sussex riding Nils d’Hurl Vent, a 9 year-old bay gelding owned by Mandy Hall and Claire Inglis, jumped a superb clear in the first round and was unlucky to have a foot in the water in the second.

14 year-old Jessica Mendoza from Chippenham, Wiltshire riding Sarah Mendoza’s 12 year-old chestnut mare Tixylix produced Britain’s third first round clear and as the British victory was already in the bag, was not required to start again in the second.

Chef d’Equipe Alan Fazakerley commented:

The Team really pulled together today and to have the competition won without having to jump our fourth rider was an incredible achievement. I am extremely proud of them, they all put in gutsy performances and I am delighted that we came away with a British victory”.

Earlier in the show Jessica Mendoza riding Sarah Mendoza’s 9 year-old grey mare Razorlite II won a speed competition and from our individual entries, 15 year-old Timothy Wilks from Henley-on-Thames, Oxon riding Caroline Wilks’ 12 year-old coloured gelding The Colour of Money finished second in the Grand Prix. 13 year-old Emily Roe from Lincoln riding Simon Roe’s 19 year-old grey gelding New York Spritzer won a Two Phase competition.
