Thursday 13 January 2011
British Showjumping’s Jake Saywell has been nominated for the Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award at the Nottinghamshire Sports Award which takes place on the 21st February 2011. The other nominations alongside him are Fiona Donnelly and Rosie Rudin from Swimming, Sam Oldham from the Men's Artistic Gymnastics, Katie Helen Bartlett from Rowing and Jack Burrows from Speed Skating.
This inaugural event looks to recognise and reward the contribution to sport being made by local clubs, individuals and volunteers in Nottingham.
In July, Jake took part in the European Children’s Championship, winning a team gold medal and placing 4th individually. He was placed in all three classes whilst representing Britain at an International competition in Bonheiden during May. Alongside this he has won or been placed in numerous events with success on both the international and national stage.
British Showjumping’s East Midlands Development Officer, Ruth Tyler commented, “I nominated Jake for this award as we felt that his achievement throughout 2010 was outstanding. During 2010 he has proved himself as a serious rival to his fellow competitors both on the National and International circuit.”
Corinne Bracken, chef d’equipe and Team Coach to the Youth Showjumping squads further added “Jake shows both talent and maturity beyond his years. His commitment to the sport is second to none and he played a pivotal role within the team in securing a Gold Medal for Great Britain at their European Championships this year. It is great to see Jake being acknowledged in this way”.
