Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Rounds begin at Hargate Arena Show

The Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Rounds got off to a flying start this weekend at Hargate Arena Show in Derbyshire (Monday 7th May), following a competitive season of first round competitions.

The 60 rider and pony combinations starting the class were all aiming to gain one of the two Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) direct qualifying tickets that were on offer for the Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Championship Final, which takes place in October 2012.

Out of the 60 starters, nine combinations made it into the final jump off and with only two riders collecting treble clears, the top two bagged the available HOYS direct qualifying tickets.

The winner of the Regional Final was the talented 16-year-old Beth Vernon Mansfield, Nottinghamshire who rode Allyson Blagg’s Zirina II clear over the jump off course in a time of only 34.63 seconds.

The second treble clear and eventual second place was filled by 16-year-old Demi Watson from Wolverhampton who steered Nicola Watson’s Brambleborough Alan around the course in 34.94 seconds with no fences down.

The riders and ponies who finished in third to fifth place missed out on the HOYS qualification this time around, but they did take home the chance to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
