Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round at South View Equestrian Centre

Following a competitive year of qualifying, the second Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round was held at the weekend at South View Equestrian Centre in Cheshire (Sunday 13th May).

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and the 44 rider and pony starting combinations were all vying for one of these tickets.

Out of the total of 44 starters, seven pony and rider combinations made it into the final jump off in which they all needed to produce a treble clear to be in with a chance of winning one of the direct qualifying places.

The only treble clear of the competition went to the eventual winner of this second round, 15-year-old Joshua Hutchins from Bodmin, Cornwall. Joshua rode Jennifer Hudson’s My Time IV superbly to clear the jump off course in a time of 42.40 seconds and secure his place in the Championship Final.

Second place and subsequently, the last HOYS direct qualifying place, was filled by 14-year-old Patrick Williams from Lanark, Lanarkshire. Patrick rode his father’s (Patrick Williams) Gleneaskey Touch. Patrick and Gleneaskey Touch had an unfortunate pole down at the last fence to finish on a score of 4 faults in a time of 39.46 seconds.

There were four riders that just missed out on the HOYS qualification but the combinations in third to sixth took home the opportunity to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
