Ben Bick claims the golden ticket to HOYS in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet Grade C qualifier at Herts County Show

Ben Bick landed the top spot in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier with the eye-catching Diamonds Diabolo Z at Herts County.
“He has plenty of blood, scope, is super-careful, brave and very quick in the jump-off – he’s a top grand prix horse for the future,” said Ben, on the Dominator 2000 Z x Chicago I 7-year-old he owns jointly with Harry Whall.
A total of 43 competitors came forward over the course that started at a height of 1.35m with 11 conjuring up all the right answers to access the jump-off. Although this was only the second time on grass for Diamonds Diabolo, he answered every call to win with 0.99 seconds in hand.
“The show was fantastic, very well run and the ground was super,” said Colchester, Essex-based Ben. “It was ‘Diabolo’s first county show and he took in the atmosphere and rose to the occasion, the only thing he didn’t like was the pony and traps – we shot into the ring at high speed at the sight of them.”
The Belgian-bred gelding joined Ben two years ago.
“He was very tricky and nervous as a young horse and took a long time to break. He didn’t start jumping until midway through his 5-year-old year but he’s caught up quickly and is cantering around 1.40m. I credit my girlfriend Abbie Summers for this, he needed a lot of time and love and she’s spent so much time with him on the floor, he wouldn’t be where he is now without her.”
Ben Walker steered Klinton II into second place and Hollie Pearce picked up the final HOYS qualifying ticket in third on James O Hara H.
