Aintree International Equestrian Centre attracts Britain’s top riders

Last week saw some of Britain’s top riders descend upon Aintree International Equestrian Centre for the first of the senior premier shows.
With the Equestrian Centre being opened in 2007 it comes with both modern and state of the art facilities. “This is truly a fantastic venue” said a passing competitor.
The Welcome to Yorkshire Winter Grade C Qualifier kicked off the show with James Billington taking the first place prize fund along with the first of the qualifying tickets. James riding Rowena Gredley’s 7 year old chestnut gelding, Watch Me IV jumped two fantastic clear rounds in a jump off time of 42.89 seconds. Second place and the second qualifying ticket went to Louise Whitaker riding Mandy Hall’s Blush II. The pair jumped double clear in a jump off time of 44.95 seconds.
The second day saw 18 year old George Whitaker from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire take first and second place in the Team Murka & World Class Programme U23 British Championship. George’s winning round was on his bothers 12 year old chestnut gelding, Carnaval Path where he jumped double clear in a jump off time of 39.47 seconds. George is currently lying joint first on the Team Murka & World Class Programme U23 British Championship leader board with Tim Page. To view the leader board click here.
Sunday played host to the biggest class of the Show, the Welcome to Yorkshire Jump. It was Paul Barker from Nothallerton, North Yorkshire that took the £1000 first place prize money riding Lynn Barker’s 13 year old chestnut mare, Elegant C. The pair jumped with ease round the 1.45m course in a jump off time of 35.22 seconds. Paul is currently leading the Welcome to Yorkshire Jump leader board, to view the leader board click here.
The Welcome to Yorkshire Jump and Winter Grade C Championship will take place at the Yorkshire International Showjumping Event held between 22nd and 24th April 2011. The Team Murka & World Class Programme U23 British Championship Final will take place at the London International Horse Show, Olympia between 14th and 20th December 2010
