Samantha Jimmison lands the top two places in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Harrogate Riding Centre

Samantha Jimmison proved invincible in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Harrogate Riding Centre, North Yorkshire, to take the top two places, winning with Mourinho II.
Course-designer John Bedford’s 11-fence 1.05m track reduced the 29 starters to 11 for round two with an eventual nine coming forward in the third and final round against the clock.
Samantha guided the more experienced 6-year-old Mourinho Quickfeuer Van Koekshof x Lys De Darmen in the top spot with the 6-year-old Karandasj daughter Maya VD Watermolen in second, 3.43 seconds separating the two. Both horses have been produced with eventing in mind.
Joanne Pullen’s Mourinho was purchased as an unbroken 3-year-old.
“He took time to break as he was a worrier as a youngster and looked like Eeyore, but now he’s grown up to be lovely guy that is good at all three disciplines, he’s like a big Labrador. He’s very competitive and this class was just a bit of fun for him before he starts his eventing season next week,” said Sam.
Second-placed Kayleigh Nicholls’ Maya holds a special place in Samantha’s heart.
“She’s a warrior and lives to work, she gives a reason to get up and want to ride her,” said Samantha. “She was bought in Holland in 2020 and arrived on Valentine’s Day just before the Covid lockdown but she fractured her hock as a 3-year-old and needed time to heal. We’d just got her up and running but 12 months ago she had an accident and smashed four vertebrae in her withers.
“I’d just taken her saddle off and it was a hot, sticky day and she scratched her face on her leg, the fulmer snaffle caught in her boot and she flipped over on the concrete. We didn’t think she’d recover but she has good bloodlines and either we or her breeder would use her. However, her warrior-like attitude has seen her heal and, with physio and work on Saywells water treadmill, make a comeback. She’s so intelligent, it’s as though she tells me she’s ready for the next stage,” added Samantha.
“She has the breeding, attitude and potential to be a five-star eventer, but how far she’ll go is another matter. She had a high wither and her physique of a good shoulder and deep girth means wearing a saddle doesn’t cause any aggravation. Everything she does now is a bonus.”
