Team Results Round Up from the Scottish Home Pony 2012

Tuesday 14 August 2012

Last week saw Ingliston Equestrian Centre in Renfrewshire, Scotland play host to the annual Scottish Home Pony Team Competitions. Riders came from all corners of Great Britain and Ireland to represent their team and their nations; namely England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. A total of 12 riders from each nation were selected to compete across the three different team competitions, those being 128cms, 138cms and 148cms.

The Scottish Home Pony Team Competitions kicked off with the 128cms class and it was Team England who won. The team finished on a score of 8 faults after conceding 4 faults in both rounds, but they finished well ahead of the rest of the field with three fences in hand. The team consisted of the following riders and ponies:

• 12-year-old Tara Byrtt from Weston-Super-Mare, Avon riding Lisa Byrtt’s My Little Tinker
• 11-year-old Daisy Deakin from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear riding Felicity Deakin’s Red Hot Patootie
• 11-year-old Chloe McHattie from Carlisle, Cumbria riding Sara McHattie’s Tynebank Royal Jubilee
• 12-year-old Connie Warde-Aldam from Doncaster, South Yorkshire riding Jayne Warde-Aldam’s Dykebeck Wild Hazelnut

The 138cms class was taken by Team Scotland in fantastic style as they were the only team to finish up on a score of 0 faults. The Scottish 138cms Team produced three immaculate clear rounds across both rounds of competition, meaning that they could drop the 4 fault scores produced in both rounds. The team consisted of:

• 14-year-old Rory Aird from Lanark, Lanarkshire riding John Aird’s Sonas Barney
• 9-year-old Alexander McLean from Lasswade, Midlothian riding Marjory McNaughton’s Lennon Princess
• 12-year-old Emma Crawford from Cupar, Fife riding Lynn Crawford’s Mitchel Troy Welsh Express
• 14-year-old Graham Babes from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire riding George Babes’ Alfie III

The 148cms competition was won by Team Ireland who only added 1 time fault to their otherwise immaculate score. The time fault was produced during the first round, but with three superb clears counting from the second round, the Irish team finished a clear 7 faults ahead of the second placed team (England). Team Ireland was made up of the following pony and rider combinations:

• 16-year-old Ciara Kennedy from Hillsborough, County Down riding Frances Kennedy’s Flintstone B
• 16-year-old Aoife Dooley from Newry, County Down riding Brendan Murphy’s Mini Cooper II
• 15-year-old Ellen Sweetnam from Bandon, County Cork riding Barra Sweetnam’s Temple Spartacus
