Morgan Kent Wins Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Nottinghamshire County Show

A bumper field of seventy-four starters contested the first of this year’s Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifiers at Nottinghamshire County Show in Newark on Sunday and the class proved to be a great competition for competitors and spectators alike.

Each competitor turned out with the aim of claiming one of three qualification places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show and with nearly a third of field making it through to the jump off, riders knew that only a double clear in a quick time would do.

The jump off proved to be well fought with fourteen double clears being secured and the clock proved to be pivotal in the allocation of the three qualifying tickets.

Morgan Kent from Wetherby, West Yorkshire took the top spot on Sunday on board her own 8 year-old bay mare Dolores V. Morgan rode her mare with accuracy and speed to secure the fastest double clear of the class and she blasted through the finish in 45.83 seconds.

Holly Gillott from Loughborough, Leicestershire took second place on PLS Halo Diamond, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Michael Elvin. This combination finished just behind the leaders after clocking up their double clear in 45.88 seconds.

Third place was taken by Richard Howley who is based in Wetherby, West Yorkshire and he took the last qualification place with D.Millfield Darin, an 8 year-old grey gelding owned by HK Horses. Richard achieved his double clear in 46.09 seconds.
