The second Summer Pony Premier show took place at South View Competition Centre this past weekend where more young riders arrived to secure their Horse of the Year Show tickets.
Twenty-five combinations came forward in Saturday’s Demolition Services Ltd Pony Showjumper of the Year Qualifier, where the challenging track saw three combinations jump clear in the first round. Darcy Breen, riding the Breen Equestrian’s One Sahara, Ella Kay, riding Charlotte Reed-Stephenson’s Lucky Clover Boy, and Lucy Capper, riding Nicola and Robert Capper’s Capability Brown, all opted to save their ponies for another day having successfully secured qualification to the final and shared top honours.
On Sunday, it was time for the Enablelink 128cm HOYS Qualifier where 32 competitive riders took on the 1.10m track, whittled down to six for the jump-off. Anya Dewey Clark, riding Anna Clark’s Jim (Cobid) came out on top, piloting the 17-year-old gutsy gelding around the course in an unbeatable time of 37.00 seconds. Douglas Breen came home in second place with the Breen Equestrian’s Lambay Off Broadway, 2.26 seconds off the winning pace whilst Poppy Dorise steered Jade Gerken’s Black Jack III around for a steady triple clear into third place. Lucas McArdle picked up fourth place and the final qualifying spot with the fastest four fault round in the jump-off aboard Katie Sawers’ Pippo I.
The final qualifier on Sunday saw the 138cm ponies take to the ring for the CT Equine Collection 138cm HOYS Qualifier. Thirty-one combinations came forward where, once again, six unlocked the clear rounds needed to advance to the jump-off. Victory was secured by Phoebe Crossman, who piloted Clare Crossman’s Sparkling Mr Gucci across the finish in a swift time of 46.16 seconds. Anya Dewey Clark picked up another ticket to HOYS, finishing in second place, this time riding Anna Clark’s Fredaine De Blonde. Mia Breen became the third member of the Breen Family to secure their qualifying ticket this weekend as she slotted into third with Caroline Breen’s Another Milton. Amy Capper finished in fourth place and followed in her sister Lucy’s footsteps to bag her own HOYS ticket, riding Robert and Nicola Capper’s Ruby Brown.
