Lucy Capper got an early birthday present with a win in the STX UK Pony Foxhunter Second Round at South View Summer Pony Premier

Lucy Capper got an early birthday present when she secured her ticket to the Horse of the Year Show in the STX UK Pony Foxhunter Second Round at South View Summer Pony Premier Show last weekend.
Thirty-six starters were whittled down to just nine over the three-round competition, with four of those finishing on a clean sheet. Victory went the way of Lucy Capper, who piloted Robert and Nicola Capper’s Clonbolloge Lad around the shortened course in the fastest time of the day and did enough to keep her competition at bay.
Hollie Gerken made the journey home from the Youth Nations Cup competition in Zuidwolde, the Netherlands, worth it when she rode her way to second place with Kerry Grimster’s Velini’s Silver Star, finishing just 0.70 seconds behind the winners. Michael McColm slotted into third place with Gordon Roper’s Luxs Little Lady, a further 1.30 seconds off the pace whilst Olivia Brightmore, riding Rachel Brightmore’s Whatsapp Van Duyversputten, picked up her second HOYS ticket of the weekend as they slotted into fourth place, 1.42 seconds in arrears.
“It was a really good weekend for us,” said Lucy. “I thought the jump-off course was built very well and it meant that I could really open him up. We were able to make up some time landing after the oxer which is where I think we won the class.
“He went three rounds the day before in the Newcomers, we were just unlucky to have the last fence down but still got our ticket to the final which was amazing.
“I’m really looking forward to taking him to HOYS. He’s only eight and this is only his second year doing the big classes but he’s jumping so well at the moment. We’ve been together a couple of months now, but we’ve not been to many shows so although I’m still getting to know him, we get on so well as a partnership,” added Lucy.
