Kieran Leonard heads inaugural Retraining of Racehorses Bronze League Final

New to the British Showjumping National Championships 2017 is the Retraining of Racehorses Bronze League Final and crowned as the first ever champion was Kieran Leonard riding Karen Gausden’s Baytown Tigress. The pair who are based in Kent jumped a lovely first round and pulled out all the stops to produce a clear jump off round in a time of 35.56 to clinch the title.

Kieron, who has been riding the six year old mare for the last three months, took her eventing a couple of times before realising how talented a showjumper she was. “All her classes that we have taken her to she has won, and then she qualified for the Championship so we are really pleased with her,” explained Kieran.

Second place was Louise Edwards with My Mate Al, who produced a faultless clear in the jump off but were unfortunately 0.15seconds slower than the winning pair.

Retraining of Racehorses (RoR):
Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is British horseracing’s official Charity for the welfare of horses who have retired from racing. RoR raises funds from within racing to provide and maintain facilities for the care, retraining and re-homing of former racehorses and to promote awareness of the suitability of the retrained racehorse for other equine careers. Working closely with the sport horse organisations and media, RoR promotes the adaptability of racehorses to other equestrian activities, and has a well established programme of competition sponsorship.  In addition, RoR holds educational events across the country to help owners look after and train their former racehorses.
