Keysoe International CSI** - Day Two

Wednesday 06 July 2016

Newly married Holly Smith (nee Gillott) has gone straight back to competing following her wedding last weekend, and she claimed an impressive double on day two at Keysoe International.

With an impressive 4.61 seconds margin, Holly took the big class of the day, the 1.45m, on Elore. This consistent mare qualified for the Horse of the Year Show Foxhunter final last year but was sidelined and was unable to participate. However, the Namelus R/Jasper 7-year-old gets another chance after taking qualification here at Keysoe last month.

Third yesterday, Phillip Miller went one better in the fifty-strong class and eased the 8-year-old gelding Darona into second. Ricki Hill and Begtsson took third with a steadier double clear, 4.13 seconds behind Phillip. Holly was also fifth on Lammy Beach with the quickest time of the class, but at the expense of a rail on the floor.

Holly also headed the 1.30m by a 2.27 seconds with Jane Heerbeck’s Carolus K DHI. The Indoctro/Gran Corrado 9-year-old began life as an eventer and was initially produced by JP Sheffield.  Holly took on the ride this year and meets him at shows.

“He’s so careful,” said Holly, who is through to the HOYS talentseekers final with Carolus.

Day one’s 1.40m winners Chelsea Skelton and the 9-year-old Caramba took second, with Konstantinos-Evangelos Papathanassiou of Greece third on Quatuor Des Bordes.

William Rekert topped the 1.25m with Daniek, a Zelot VDL x Lux 8-year-old mare he started competing in April, taking the class by 0.29 of a second. Ben Walker brought Brendon Stud’s home-bred Lady Warrior, a Warrior x Samson Esquire 7-year-old, into second with Tim Page in third on the Amadeus x Tygo 7-year-old Elvera.

Rachel Horton lifted the top two places in the 1.15m, winning on Carneval De La Ferme Blanche, a 14-year-old gelding she has competed for five years, and taking second with the 12-year-old Canaletto mare Quidelle De Reverdy, 0.57 of a second separating the two. Ruby Pointer came the closest, a further 2.46 seconds behind, for third on the 13-year-old mare Dutsy Van Het Hek.
