John Whitaker 2nd in Vilamoura Grand Prix

Monday 02 March 2020

Just over fifty competitors came forward in the 1.50m CSI 3* Grand Prix at the Vilamoura Atlantic Tour in Portugal yesterday with only six of them qualifying for the second round jump-off.

It was Mathieu Bourdon (FRA) that took the win with Bigouden du Tertre after a hard fought jump-off  having stopped the clock clear in a time of 40.13 seconds. Their time was just fractionally faster than John Whitaker with the 12 year-old bay Unick du Francport, which he jointly owns with wife Clare, who also jumped clear but in a time of 40.83.

It was Cedric le Goff (FRA) with Typhon de la Cense that took 3rd and Belgium rider Claire Putters that took 4th with Copain de Muze.  British rider Guy Williams on Rouge de Ravel took 5th as the fastest combination in the jump off having finished in a blistering fast time of 38.60 seconds albeit with a fence down.  Home rider Hugo Carvalho with Vichy du Puits finished 6th.
