Jessica Mendoza Honoured at FEI Awards 2015

Young British showjumper Jessica Mendoza was honoured with the Longines Rising Star Award at the FEI Awards 2015 on Saturday night, capping what has already been an immensely successful year for the 19 year-old.

Labelled as the “Oscars of the equestrian world”, the FEI Awards salute the heroes of today and tomorrow for their outstanding contribution to equestrian sport alongside applauding what has been an amazing sporting year for rising talent and excellence.

The Longines Rising Star Award is dedicated to equestrians aged 14 to 21 who demonstrate outstanding sporting talent and Jessica beat five other nominees. 2015 has heralded a meteoric rise for Jessica, seeing her produce consistently strong international performances, with more than ten wins in the past year.

This year’s highlight came when she represented Great Britain at the 2015 European Championships and her selection made her the youngest British senior championship team member for nearly 40 years. She also played a key role in Britain securing Olympic qualification at the Championships in Aachen and the team finished in fourth overall, narrowly missing out on a medal.

A clearly delighted Jessica said “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone, I really wasn't expecting this. I'm so proud to be here tonight and receive the Longines Rising Star Award. I am honoured to be amongst such great sporting talent. Thank you to the FEI for organising this awards ceremony and to Longines for the encouragement and acknowledgement of our hard work and efforts throughout the year.”

Jessica was among five other winners on Saturday and the awards were presented by Hollywood actress Bo Derek, Chair of the Jury for this year’s awards. Chaired by Bo, the FEI Awards 2015 judging panel also included FEI President Ingmar De Vos; Carmen Barrera, Chair of FEI Regional Group V (South America); and Ulf Helgstrand, President of the Danish Equestrian Federation and Vice President of the European Equestrian Federation.
