Tuesday 24 September 2019

The Royal County of Berkshire Show held the first International Stairway counting towards the 2020 league on Sunday and it was the on-form Harriet Nuttall who took the win in fine style. Just over half of the initial starting field achieved a clear first round over Course Designer Matthew Hoskins’ thirteen fence track with four going on to keep a clean slate in the jump-off.
Harriet from Yeovil in Somerset piloted Rupert Nuttall’s Romanov sired 11 year-old chestnut gelding Galway Bay Jed to the fastest round of the class. They crossed the finish line in 51.03 seconds leaving the 2019 International Stairway Champion Helen Tredwell 0.92 seconds behind in the runners up spot with Colin Garratt’s Sebastian VII.
The Fletcher brothers claimed the two final double clears. William steered Graham Fletcher’s Persimmon into third place with a time of 54.94 seconds whilst Oliver claimed fourth with Temple Rebus, also owned by Graham, who produced a time of 55.70 seconds.
The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows where winning combinations accrue League Points that count towards the Final which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August 2020. The series culminates with a high profile championships where three Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are allocated as well as it being where the sports National Champion is crowned.
