Emma-Jo Slater Secures Win in Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final

The competition heated up at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show on Friday with some spectacular competition in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena.

The class was hotly contested with ninety-three combinations lining up to take their chance of becoming a Champion and the first rider kicking off the action was Julia Hardy from Chesterfield, Derbyshire who completed the first round in a time of 79.87 seconds on her own 7 year-old bay gelding Crescendo Z. From this early notable round it was clear Julia had set the standard for the rest to follow. The talent showcased was impressive as the riders flew around the ring in a race against the clock.

After forty-seven first round clears, spectators waited with baited breath for the final jump off. Emma Jo-Slater from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and the 6 year-old chestnut gelding Kimba Flamenco owned by Kim Barzilay, set the standard with a superb time of 34.32 seconds and the days first double clear. The intensity of the competition increased as the riders proved that every second counts with double clears continuing to be achieved.

After an incredible jump off, Charlotte Foreman from Canterbury, Kent stole first position from Emma with a swift and clear round of 33.79 seconds on her own 6 year-old grey mare Quite Like It. Emma-Jo, who had two horses in the competition, knew the pressure was now on for her to perform with her second ride Bambi Van Het Huikven, a 13 year-old bay mare owned by Kim Barzilay.

The spectators filed in as the atmosphere in the arena deepened as Emma-Jo and Bambi Van Het Huikven attempted to regain first place. In a time of 33.43 seconds, Emma and Bambi Van Het Huikven flew into first taking the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship title.

Emma and Bambi Van Het Huikvens have only been a team for six months and clearly are a well suited combination. Emma also came fourth on her first ride, Kimba Flamenco, saying “the horses both felt good and it was a good jump off.”
