Tuesday 05 July 2016

Ella Nutbeen Slowley and Artisan II claimed victory in the Silver League qualifier at the Wales and West show at the David Broome Event Centre in Crick, Monmouthshire.

From a field of forty-four, only nine gained clear rounds in the first round to access the jump-off, with Ella from Woodford, Gloucestershire proving the quickest by 0.23 sec.  Ella has ridden the 13-year-old gelding Artisan, by Aljano and out of a Coriander mare, for two and a half years with regular wins at 1.20m and 1.30m level.

Lily Bradstock from Wantage Oxfordshire, daughter of Sara and Mark Bradstock – trainer of 2015 Cheltenham gold cup winner Coneygree – commandeered Ann Solis’ Benedictus, a 10-year-old gelding by Concorde and the usual ride of her brother Alfie, to take second.

Tara Byrtt from Weston-Super-Mare, Bristol brought Tamsin Conyers’ 14-year-old mare Valerie B into third with only 0.58 sec separating the first three.

These three qualify for the Silver League semi-final, the next step towards qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show.
