Debutante Jessica Mendoza finishes 4th in St Gallen Grand Prix

Sunday 07 June 2015

19 year-old Jessica Mendoza, a World Class Development Programme rider from Chippenham, certainly made her presence felt when she made her debut on a FEI 5* Nations Cup show this weekend.

Friday had seen Jessica and her mother Sarah’s brown mare Spirit T take on the course like old-hands jumping clear in the first round, the only clear that was achieved across the team.  Having had a rest day yesterday, they returned to the arena this afternoon delivering yet another first round clear to secure their place in a twelve horse jump off.

Jessica has become known for not being afraid to take on the clock and the rest of the field when a class title is at stake and this afternoon was no exception.  Jumping yet another clear, one of only seven that managed to achieve it, she stopped the clock in a time of 48.76 seconds, just 1/100th of a second behind Darragh Kenny for Ireland and Sans Soucis Z who took 3rd place.  It was Switzerland that filled the top two places with Romain Duguet and Quorida de Treho along with Steve Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets taking 1st and 2nd respectively.
