Charles Stanley British Masters International - Day Two

Saturday 02 July 2016

Joe Davison found the shortest route on Team Harmony’s Venoot to head the day’s top class, the 1.45m, against fifty starters.

Fourteen reached the jump-off, with Joe on the Andiamo x Ramiro 14-year-old taking the win by 1.12 seconds. Chloe Winchester eased her top mare and 2015 Queen Elizabeth Cup winner Avoca Valkyrie, a 13-year-old by Touchdown, into second.  Sweden’s Angelie von Essen took third on the Cheers Cassini 12-year-old gelding One Man.

Britain dominated the 1.40m accumulator, with Matt Sampson scoring a handsome victory. He guided Perfect Rouge, a 13-year-old gelding by Papillon Rouge, into a 1.92 seconds unbeatable lead to take the class.

Eight of thirty-seven competitors posted maximum scores. Mennell Watson brought Helen van Heyningen’s home-bred Cobretti stallion Whisper In The Wind into second with Graham Babes on the Valentino DDH 10-year-old gelding Boucheron in third.

France headed the 2* 1.30m, Julien Feuillerac and Eclips winning by 1.17 seconds. Michael Potter and the Billy Congo 10-year-old mare Billy Reel claimed second with Paul Barker and the 11-year-old gelding Sandors Legacy in third.

Only two riders produced first round clears in the pony viewing trial, and both posted four faults in the jump-off. Sophie Bowen Howard emerged on top with the 16-year-old mare Dafina K, finishing on four faults but proving faster by 1.74 seconds for victory over Hallie Lunn and the 13-year-old mare Javas Alun.

Nina Emery topped the amateur 1.20m aboard the 13-year-old mare Piana with exactly half a second in hand. Scotland’s Sandy McLean took second on the 10-year-old gelding Warhol Wulfselection Z with Sally Swiers and Millfield Longsocks in third.

Second yesterday, Angel Tough went one better on day two to win the amateur 1.10m with the 9-year-old gelding Callumbus by a handsome 2.15 seconds. Dee Hayes took second on the 6-year-old mare Casallola with Julie Shaw third on Le Montrechat.
