Amy Cosgrove wins KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice 2nd Round Qualifier
Wednesday 13 May 2015

Thirty-eight combinations started out over the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Second Round track on Saturday 9th May at Northallerton Equestrian Centre in North Yorkshire and each rider was focused on taking home a qualification place for the Championship Final which will be held at the British Showjumping National Championships later on this summer.
Treble clears were all important in this class as this would see a horse and rider combination gain their place in the Championship Final. From the starting line-up, twelve combinations secured a spot in the final jump off and five treble clears were eventually produced.
The top spot in this second round was taken by 40 year-old Amy Cosgrove from Brampton, Cumbria after she delivered the fastest treble clear of the class on board her own 9 year-old bay gelding Mr Touch Wood. The combination was drawn late on in the jump off and they used this to their advantage as Amy explains “Going into the final jump off with only two riders before me jumping clear, I knew that I had the opportunity to take not only the victory but also a qualifying spot. Woody (Mr Touch Wood) covers ground easily so I knew that I could take a chance and push him to go faster.”
Amy’s plan paid off as she and Woody crossed the finish line in 41.28 seconds, just 0.20 seconds ahead of second place.
Thirty year-old Lauren Sisson from Guisborough, Cleveland took second place with her own 6 year-old bay gelding Harry X after they completed the course with a treble clear in 41.48 seconds.
Third place was taken by 32 year-old Christopher Hill from Saltburn by the Sea, Cleveland who partnered his own 6 year-old bay gelding Wellview Luxstriker. This combination secured third after gaining their treble clear in 44.87 seconds.
Five combinations from this second round will go forward to the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final.
