Alexander McLean Secures Victory in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at Bishop Burton
Tuesday 12 July 2016

Alexander McLean from Lasswade, Midlothian secured a commanding victory on Tobar King in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at Bishop Burton College, East Yorkshire. The win registers his qualification place for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final held at this year’s Horse of the Year Show at Birmingham’s NEC in October.
A field of forty-six initially chased the three coveted Horse of the Year Show qualifying places, but only nine produced first round clears and these were further whittled down to seven for the final jump-off.
Alexander Mclean produced the goods mid-draw, cruising into the top spot on the Irish-bred 9-year-old gelding Tobar King owned by Marjory McNaughton.
They remained unmoved as challenges came and went, nearest rival sixteen year-old Ella Popely from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and the 13-year-old Irish-bred gelding Jethro proving four seconds in arrears, but sufficient to take the second HOYS place.
Sixteen year-old Robert Murphy from Preston, Lancashire claimed the third qualifying position on new ride Uncanny, an 8-year-old gelding owned by Sasha Moore, that he has ridden for only two weeks.
With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having been allocated, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
