Abbey Russell books her place in the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Championship Final

The last of the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Rounds took place at Morris Equestrian Centre in Fenwick, Ayrshire last weekend and it was Abbey Russell from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire that secured the win.

It was a field of just under thirty starters that came forward with the hope of picking up one of the final twelve qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships being held later this month (18th - 22nd November 2015) at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool.

Riding her own 17 year-old bay mare Rosanna III, Abby was one of the last of sixteen competitors to come forward for the jump off.  With eight double clears already having been produced, she took the decision to pick up pace from the outset and aim for a fast clear.  The decision paid off with them leaving all fences untouched within a time of 29.26 seconds to become the only combination able to break the 30 second barrier.

Second place went to Louise Hall from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire after she produced her double clear on board her own 15 year-old bay gelding Conan J.A.Z in a time of 31.47 seconds.

Marion Brown from Cumnock, Ayrshire with her own 7 year-old bay gelding Abacus II finished in third place jumping clear and stopping the clock in 33.57 seconds.
