Stephanie Brownbill Secures Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round Victory at Pyecombe

A strong field of 37 rider combinations came forward to tackle Keith Bristow’s course in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery – Second Round at Pyecombe at the weekend.
The technical track proved influential, with only 20 combinations managing to jump clear through the opening two rounds to secure their place in the jump-off.
It was Stephanie Brownbill who claimed the top honours aboard Double M Stud’s Double M Carpe Diem. The pair produced a superb clear round against the clock, crossing the finish line in an impressive 32.21 seconds to take victory.
Second place went to Sophia Taylor riding Baumes Otto, who also delivered a faultless jump-off round in a time of 34.56 seconds.
Stephanie Brownbill enjoyed further success by also taking third place, this time riding Loriot IV. Another polished clear round saw the combination stop the clock in 34.74 seconds.
The class showcased a high standard of competition throughout, with riders battling it out for top honours in an exciting jump-off at Pyecombe.
“So, this is actually the first time I have ever jumped this horse, I work for Julian Mincher and my boyfriend Tom Pritchard [who also works for Julian] usually rides him but he is off with an injury. Julian also won the Ariat British Novice on the Saturday on a horse Tom also usually rides, he had to put his hat on for the first time in a while, we had quite a few horses there over the weekend. I also rode another new horse in the Novice second round and came second so we had a good couple of days. Pyecombe is a lovely showground, well run and the surface is great, it’s the first time I have been there, before I moved to Julian’s it was out of my usual area. The courses were nice and inviting and encouraging for the young horses.
“Kenny is lovely horse and only a five year old so the courses suited him. He is really sweet with the nicest personality, I know him from being around the yard even though I’ve never ridden him before. I had jumped one round the jump off before him, also on a horse I hadn’t ridden before, which went clear and when somebody went slightly quicker than my time, I knew with Kenny [who was later in the class] I had to do a bit more with him. I was getting to know the extra horses I had to ride as I was going along but I had spoken Julian about a plan for the jump off with Kenny, he said he would respond well to turning back to fences. Kenny felt really great and confident, he’s clever and careful even though he is only five. He’s got so much jump for the future, and got better as the fences went up. It was a quick jump off in the end but as Kenny as such a nice temperament you can trust him, the plan was to keep him coming through the turns, so we managed to knock a couple of seconds off the first ride I had. He jumped really well.
“I am not sure how long Tom will be off for, I guess the fair thing will be to let him take back the ride!! Kenny does have his Newcomer double clears but because he is only five this year he won’t jump those second rounds this time. He’s done enough and won the five year olds at Weston Lawns the week before, he’s stepping up nicely, he will be a horse for the future so he won’t campaigned too hard this year.” Stephanie said.
