Wednesday 01 June 2011

The World Class Development Programme provided additional sponsorship to the Junior European Trial Grand Prix showjumping class that took place at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre on 30th May 2011
The support was in the form of Training Vouchers, presented to the first six prizewinners, currently eligible for British Team selection to the total value of £1,000.00.
Coursebuilder, Steve Williams built an up to height track that nineteen riders tackled with three clear rounds going through to the jump-off. Abigail Newbury, riding Valentino VII was very unlucky, who although jumped clear in the first round, picked up one time fault.
Pippa Allen, riding Bonfire III was the clear winner of the class, jumping clear in a time of 40.54 seconds, second place went to Jessica Dimmock, riding Capello, who again jumped clear, but in a slower time of 45.75 seconds. Although Sally Hopkinson riding Theunis was quicker than Jessica in a time of 43.76 seconds, they picked up four faults en route. Graham Gillespie and James Robert were awarded the fifth and sixth placed Training Vouchers, both of whom jumped the first round with the quickest four faults.
Junior & Young Rider Chef d’Equipe, Corinne Bracken who watched the class said, “The junior riders showed a lot of talent when jumping an up to height course of 1.45m – 1.50m, the three clear rounds that went through to the jump off were outstanding in the way they rode the course and also in the way their horses jumped it. Abbie Newbury was particularly unlucky to pick up one time fault in the first round. Pippa Allen’s quick second round showed talent beyond her years”.
The World Class Development Programme is Lottery and Exchequer funded via UK Sport, and seeks to identify and develop talented athletes who have shown the potential to reach the world stage. The Programme underpins World Class Performance and, together with the Equine Pathway, they comprise the Equestrian World Class Programme, incorporating the three Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage.
The Programmes work closely with the three British Equestrian Federation Olympic Member Bodies; British Dressage, British Eventing and the British Show Jumping Association, whose own training and competition programmes work hand in hand with the programmes run within World Class.
