TOP SHOWJUMPERS CONFIRMED FOR ROYAL FESTIVAL OF THE HORSE
Thursday 08 July 2010

Twenty of the highest ranked riders in the UK, including Nick Skelton, John Whitaker, Robert Whitaker, William Funnell, Ben Maher, William Whitaker, Robert Smith, Geoff Billington, Scott Brash and Geoff Luckett will compete for a share of the £45,000 prize fund at the Royal Festival of the Horse on Saturday 10 July. Ellen Whitaker, Jemma Kirk and Helen Tredwell will also be competing with the aim of beating their male counterparts.
They will be joined by invited overseas riders, including Billy Twomey, Anthony Condon, Laura Kraut and Dave Quigley, as they all compete in the Accumulator and the Grand Prix.
The Accumulator (12:40, Saturday 10 July) is a 1.45m showjumping speed class where horse and rider will have to display extraordinary speed and accuracy to scoop the £3,000 first prize. Riders will face an optional joker fence at 1.60m and will have to decide whether to take a chance to grab the lead or risk knocking it down and losing everything.
The Royal Festival of the Horse Grand Prix (14:30 Saturday) will see riders compete to take home the £10,000 first prize.
“This new event in the calendar looks set to give spectators a first class experience of Showjumping at it’s best. We feel extremely fortunate to be in the position of having not only a new show with a heavy prize fund available, but also in the way the Organisers have worked alongside us from the outside with a view of creating an event that also met with our sports performance needs” said Maria Clayton, Head of Communications for British Showjumping.
Don’t miss your chance to see this nail-biting competition on Saturday 10 July. Plus there’s top-class riders competing in dressage and Express Eventing, the cream of the country’s show horses and ponies, demonstrations, shopping, family entertainment and much more.
